India is experiencing a vast difference in the expansion of language
in media in our country which lied hidden under the English media for
many decades even after independence. Out of top ten daily newspapers,
five are Hindi and one each in Telgu, Tamil, Marathi and Bengali. Only
one is English.
The top two leading newspaper has readership of 21.12 million and 17.37 million.
The reason for the rapid increase in the growth of consumers for the Hindi newspapers has been the increasing literacy which has increased from 20 percent from the time of independence to around 68 percent at the present.
The rising literacy suggests that there is a good scope for much faster growth for Hindi news media. There are population in millions who can read and understand any language but they don’t read any publications.
